Metric Washers

A standard flat washer for use in just about any assembly. A flat washers main task is to spread the load across a wider area, which comes in particularly useful when dealing with softer materials. Conforms to DIN 125. Please note that due to manufacturing limitations, all nylon variants of these items are only "similar to" and not "in absolute accordance with" the standard specified.

Simple flat washer, similar to DIN 125 Form A type, but made to the newer ISO 7089 standard. Washers are used in nut and bolt assemblies to improve stress distribution on the bearing surface and span large clearance holes. These washers are as standard 200HV hardness grade suitable for hex head bolts, screws and nuts in property classes up to and including grade 8.8. They are also suitable for case-hardened thread rolling screws. Harder 300HV washers also available for use with hex head bolts, screws and nuts in property classes up to and including grade 10.9. They are also suitable for through hardened socket head cap screws, bolts and nuts.

Also known as a fender or repair washer, this very popular type or washer offers a large external diameter which allows any force from the bolted or screwed assembly to be distributed over a large surface area. Ideally suited, therefore, in assemblies that use soft or delicate materials such as timber, plasterbaord or plastics.

A large diameter washer where the external diameter is typically three times that of the nominal internal diameter. Also known as Form G, and complies with DIN 9021. These washers for timber or wood construction are of a robust design that distribute the force a bolt head and nut apply to the wood when tightened. By spreading the load over a larger surface area, the large diameter washer will protect the timber around the fixing point from being crushed or splitting. This type R variant features the usual round hole, but the standard does feature a square holed type (type V). These timber construction washers are especially useful for softwood and aluminium, and their additional support will aid the structural integrity of the joint. The increased bearing surface of the washer will also help accommodate the movement in the wood as the timber expands and contracts with changes in humidity.

Timber or wood construction washers with a square hole. These washers are designed for use with bolts that include a square section on the shank below the head, such as with coach or carriage bolts. The large size of the washer and the square hole help prevent the bolt from spinning as it's tightened and will protect the surrounding area of the fixing point. Timber construction washers are generally used with softwoods and will support and add strength to the joint. A toothed or perforated washer usually employed in electrical connections such as battery terminals, but can also be used in assemblies to help prevent loosening. This variant includes teeth on the internal diameter, which leaves a neater finish. Accords with DIN 6798J.

Square Section Spring Washers are designed to help prevent loosening of bolted joints under vibration. Also know as Split Lock Washers and Split Ring Washers. This type has a square section and is generally used with Socket Head Cap screws/bolts, manufactured to DIN 7980. Where even distribution of load on the mating surface is the primary requirement an alternative spring washer or a flat washer would be a more suitable solution. In addition Spring Washers do not offer protection for the material being fastened.

This type has a rectangular section and is generally used on hexagon head bolted fixings, manufactured to DIN 127. Spring washer designed to help prevent loosening of bolted joints under vibration. This type is manufactured to DIN 6796 has an inherent conical shape. Also known as a Belleville washer, disc spring, coned-disc spring and cupped disc washer.

Wave Washers are a profiled spring washer designed to help prevent loosening of low load bolted joints and for allowing controlled axial expansion on shafts. To DIN 137. Also known as Coiled Wave Springs or Wave Springs. They will deform and loose their spring if tightened too hard.

Tab washers, also known as long tab wing washers are a type of locking washer, conforming to DIN 463. These washers have two tabs that can be folded around a bolt head or nut forming a mechanical locking solution between the bolt or nut and the adjoining surface. Used in situations where there is heavy vibration or in extreme heat conditions. The tab washer negates the need for a locking pin, castle or slotted nut.

Nord-Lock washers, also known as wedge-locking washers, secure bolts with tension instead of friction. Working as a pair, these washers create a wedge-effect underneath the bolt head or nut so that the joint is prevented from loosening unintentionally. Nord-Lock washers are quick and easy to install and remove, and they are reusable. Supplied as a glued pair, they are appropriate for use in vehicles, for DIY and for watersport equipment. Most sizes are available in two external diameters: the smaller standard type listed here, and the larger SP type.

Robust flat washer with a large square shape rather than the more usual round. Often used in timber construction and in applications at risk of seismic activity. To DIN 436.

Cup Stamped Washers are also known as stamped metal finishing washers and dished cup washers. For use with a countersunk bolt or wood screw, they give an attractive look to an exposed screw head. Often used in the furniture industry and to grip fabric and other light materials securely surrounding the screw head.

Conical Seat Washers manufactured to DIN 6319 D. Perfect for using in clamping solutions of non parallel surfaces in conjunction with Spherical Washers or hexagon nuts with spherical seating (DIN 6330).

These washers, as the name suggests, are used in heavy duty applications. Much thicker than other forms of equivalent nominal sizes, tough and corrosion resistant with a larger outer diameter. Manufactured to DIN 7349 and used with bolts with heavy type spring pins, where a larger bearing surface area is required.

Washers for use in structural steelwork. These are strong thick flat washers, with a reduced outer diameter for applications where there needs to be a tight clearance around the joint. Like all washers, washers made to DIN 7989-1 are use to spread the load of the fastener, protect the adjoining surface and help to prevent the joint from loosening.

Square taper washers for use with tapered flange I-section beams to EN 10024. This washer has a taper angle of 14% which corresponds to the angle or taper on the I-section's flange. The groove is on the underside and indicates the thick end of the taper. Placed on the I section, they will create a level surface for the bolt head or nut to be fixed against. Square taper washers will also distribute the load evenly around the fixing point and reduce the risk of the joint loosening.

Square taper washers with a 8% taper angle for use with U-sections. These wedge shaped washers have two grooves running across the washer on the underside, to indicate the taper on the reverse. Put against a nut or a bolt head, the square taper washer will create a flat surface on the U channel section. The washer will also help distribute the load from the fixing point, protect the surrounding surface and help reduce the joint from loosening.

Shim rings are a type of washer used to prevent machine components from moving around axially on a shaft, and are often secured with circlips or lock washers. Being made to exact dimensions, they are used as spacers to fill gaps and create level surfaces within an assembly. Shim rings allow for a tighter alignment between machine parts, as well as being a load bearing surface. Shim rings should be placed against smooth surfaces and not used where there is a step or chamfer, which could deform the ring.
